University of St Francis Motherhouse

Phase I (2005):

  • As part of the University’s “Master Plan” for expansion of facilities and enrollment, Henry Bros.  Co.  was selected for the major renovations to this 124-year-old former Motherhouse. The facility houses the College of Nursing, conference rooms, general classrooms, and student housing
  • The 41,000 square foot facility was built in 1881 by the first Franciscan Sisters in Illinois.
  • The four-story structure was originally constructed using locally quarried limestone and features substantial walls, some in excess of eighteen inches

Phase II (2007):

  • University of St. Francis has purchased the historic Sisters of St. Francis of Mary Immaculate convent at 520 Plainfield Road in Joliet.

  • Built in 1881, the Motherhouse will become the "front door" of the University.

  • This building will become home to the College of Nursing and Allied Health, a health and wellness clinic open to the community, USF Solutions, a conferencing center, Admissions, Office of the President, Alumni and Development Department, and a second food service for the university.
  • In addition the Chapel on the third floor will be open to the community. The remaining portion of the building will consist of student housing.
